WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOROur Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) is looking for a new position of wildfire modeller and analyst, located in Sassari, responsible for analyzing the different components of wildfire risk (and potentially develop tools and frameworks) to assess mitigation and adaptation options at local and regional scale under current and future climate conditions.
Workplace location: Sassari ROLEThe wildfire modeller and analyst is responsible for the analysis of different components of wildfire risk (and potentially develop tools and frameworks) to assess mitigation and adaptation options at local and regional scale under current and future climate conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIESThe wildfire modeller and analyst is responsible for:
Supporting the team in:Analyzing historical wildfire events by using machine learning and fire spread models.Assessing potential climate change impacts on fire regimen (developing data processing chains).Assessing global, regional and local drivers of fire behaviour to develop predicting tools (e.g. spatio-temporal models) testing novel machine learning algorithms and remote sensing products. REQUIREMENTSMSc or PhD degree.Experience in manipulating remote sensing data in platforms such as Google Earth Engine.Experience in using fire spread simulators (e.g. Flammap).GIS Experience (ArcGIS, QGIS).Experience on statistics and empirical modelling using programming languages such as R or Python.Experience handling large climate datasets (e.g. by using Climate Data Operators or Copernicus Climate Data Store Toolbox).Accuracy and good analytical skills.Fluency in English. DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITSBased on the duration of the employment contract, without prejudice to any changes in organisation and/or career paths and downstream of the performance appraisal.The appointment is assigned following:Internal selection;External selection in the event that there are no internal candidates, or they are assessed as unsuitable.The appointment period will be initially of 12 months starting from November 2024, renewable for 12 months additional months pending a positive evaluation. Tenure can be granted from 2 to 4 years after being appointed as a junior researcher.The gross annual salary range is from 23 to 27K Euros, depending on qualification and working experience.Welfare package (for min 12 months contract).Flexible working time.Support during the immigration process, if needed.Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
Some fiscal benefits could be applied for repatriated workers or foreign researchers/professors, having the requirements defined by Dlgs 147/2015 (for repatriates) or Dl 78/2010 (for foreigners).
