Master thesis (or Internship + Master thesis) in the field of 'Biomedical Sensors'
The Microsystems Technology Research Unit of the Center for Sensors and Devices is looking for a young student interested in carrying out a master thesis (or an internship + master thesis) experience in the field of Minimally Invasive Biomedical Sensors. The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic student with good organizational and interpersonal skills, a strong interest in engineering, electronics, and technology development, and motivated to have a training experience within an international research context.
The internship/master thesis will focus on the development of a low-power electronic module of a smart sensing system designed to monitor biomedical parameters in blood/interstitial fluids. The electronic module will be integrated into a peripheral device for smartphones and connected to the sensor. To achieve high configurability and interconnectivity with a smart mobile device and enable the system to be used in medical diagnostics, three subsystems will be designed: (a) Electronic circuits for sensor readout, (b) Data management & A/D data conversion, and (c) Data Communication via USB. An additional power supply (Li-battery) could be required for managing the energy requirements of the sensor's modules.
The student will mainly contribute to the development of some of the following activities:
analysis of the state-of-the-art technologyDevelopment (design, simulation, and assembling) of the electronic circuit for sensor readout, data management & A/D data conversion, and data communication to the smart mobile deviceElectrical testing and experimental assessment of the electronic moduleSignal and sensor data post-processingCandidates will be supported by the FBK-MST research team during their internship/master thesis.
Requirements Enrolled in a Master's degree program in Information and Communications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalentGood knowledge of the design of analog/digital electronic circuitsGood knowledge of electronicsBasic programming skills for signal and data post-processingGood knowledge of either Italian or English language (both spoken and written)Internship Information Starting date: from May 2024
