WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Junior Linux System Administrator – Space Sector
Join our client's team in Rome as a Junior Linux System Administrator. With over 30 years of experience, our client is a trusted partner of European governments and international organizations, specializing in IT and space services, providing operational and engineering support for Earth observation missions, data processing, and applied research.
In this role, you will work with advanced virtualization and cloud technologies, contributing to mission and data processing activities while advancing your career in the space industry within a dynamic, international team.
YOUR TASKS Perform installation, administration and management of operating systems and/or properly configure hardware and software on servers (e.g. install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems). Administration and operation of VMWARE virtual environment (e.g. create and configure VM, perform VM tuning, perform ESXi configuration and troubleshooting, evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems). Administration and operation of OpenStack cloud environment (e.g. create and configure VM, perform VM tuning, evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems). Plan and perform appropriate procedures, documentation, inventory assessment, and other procedures related to systems management. Monitor of operated/administered environment. Make recommendations relevant to system security, computer system performance, disk and other components utilization. Monitor systems and applications performances to track operating efficiency. Test and implement technical solutions and provide strong operational support on virtualization architectures. Work with team to automate management tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed. Conduct software and hardware evaluations, provide technical analysis and implement systems to meet Customer's IT goals. Report status and flags issues, especially in a proactive manner. Participate in the On-Call service. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE To be successful in this role, you will need:
Secondary School Diploma Minimum 2 years of proven experience in the field of system/infrastructure administration Good knowledge of Linux (RedHat based distributions, e.g. Centos, Red Hat) installation/administration and tuning Knowledge of Linux automation (e.g. Scripting, Ansible, Python..). Are an asset: Knowledge of Grafana, OpenSearch and/or Elastic STACK Having matured experience/supported/worked on datacentre and complex IT environments and/or setting up Virtual environments both on Physical and Cloud Platforms Knowledge of Kubernetes virtual environment Knowledge of VMWare virtual environment Knowledge of VMware automation (e.g. scripting reporting and deployments). Knowledge of OpenStack infrastructure Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and related management/administration tools. Knowledge of backup/restore techniques/solutions Knowledge of High Availability installation/administration and tuning Knowledge of network management, firewall and security Knowledge of databases (Oracle/MySQL/Postgres) Relevant certifications in the relevant technologies are a strong asset. Good understanding of ITIL practices and processes Good written and oral command of English (B1) Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in team working. Capacity of achieving schedule and milestones. Capacity of working under pressure. EXTRA INFORMATION Work location: Rome
Work mode: Hybrid, 2 days on-site per week and the rest from home
