DescriptionHere at the The Exploration Company we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refueled in orbit, and which carries cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented Space Vehicle Fluid and Thermal engineer to help us in our mission by contributing to the development, justification and validation of our vehicle. As Thermal Engineer, you will be in charge of the thermal design definition and justification of the vehicles. You will work closely with our mechanical, aerodynamics and CAD engineers to optimize together the vehicle design and performance. You will be part of the Vehicle Design Team and will report to the Principal Thermal Engineer and the Vehicle Design Lead. You will work in close collaboration with Avionics, Design and AIT teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn your capacity as a Space Vehicle Fluid and Thermal Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
Own the design and development of the thermal control system and components for our vehicle NyxEarthTo provide technical solutions on optimizing the design and the spacecraft thermal management, in collaboration with other subsystems (propulsion, avionics, design…)To define the accommodation of the thermal control system into the overall vehicle architectureTo determine the thermal load cases through the entire system lifecycleTo generate the thermal and fluids models, with the right level of complexity depending on the maturity and the goals of the studyTo specify and down select components, such as sensors, pumps, valves, piping, and provide detailed specification for their purchaseTo contribute to co-engineering sessions with suppliers to ensure the technical consistencyTo prepare and carry out the test campaigns: test plan definition, support to assembly, conducting the tests, exploitation for simulation comparison and calibrationTo contribute to the creation and improvement of the thermal analysis toolsTo effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical dataTo prepare the technical documentation and participate to reviews of designed systems What we would love to see from youAdvanced degree (Master of Science or PhD) in , aerospace engineering, heat transfer and fluid mechanics, or another related fieldMinimum of 10 years of experience working in aerospace vehicle thermal designDeep knowledge of thermal management and active thermal control systemStrong knowledge in Thermal and fluid analysisExperience with programming (Python, Fortran, Matlab...)Experience with several thermal software (Thermal Desktop, ESATAN) is strongly appreciatedExperience with CFD (Fluent or equivalent)Fluent in English.
