The Area Coordinator for Residence Management is responsible for the administration and supervision of the residence halls, paraprofessional staff and students residing within their assigned area of the campus. As a member of the department's professional staff, the Area Coordinator also shares responsibilities for staff training, selection and evaluation; hall programming; judicial affairs; hall operations; and weeknight and weekend on-call responsibilities. 12-month on-campus residency is required (furnished one-bedroom apartment, utilities, TV and internet access included).

Duties and Responsibilities: Selection, supervision, training and development of Graduate Resident Directors, Head Resident Assistants and Resident Assistants: ensure accurate and timely completion of administrative tasks delegated to area staff;
articulate and supervise implementation of hall and university policies and procedures;
monitor and evaluate area staff performance;
address performance issues as required;
conduct regularly scheduled individual and group meetings with area staff;
assist with the development and presentation of selection, training and in-service programs;
assist with the selection of paraprofessional staff;
ensure provision of duty coverage in assigned halls, coordinate break duty for area, develop and disseminate weekly/monthly duty rosters to designated departments;
be actively present and accessible in area of responsibility (may include night and weekend hours).

Development and maintenance of a clean, safe, and functional living environment for residents: conduct on-going assessments of the physical condition of buildings in designated area, including individual rooms, common areas and immediate ground areas; submit and follow up on building maintenance requests;
build and maintain effective working relationships with Custodial and Maintenance supervisors and staff serving buildings in designated area;
coordinate and provide on-site supervision for area fire drills; coordinate routine fire safety inspections of individual rooms;
supervise dissemination, completion, retrieval and submission of Room/Apartment Condition Forms
assist with identification of capital improvement projects for assigned halls;
maintain monthly records and generate year-end report for common area and floor/section damage billings for each hall in area; conduct end-of-year room assessments and complete data entry for individual room damage records and billings; adjudicate damage appeals from parents and residents.

Serve in on-call rotation and assist with student conduct, crisis response, counseling, and follow-up for residents in designated area: communicate institutional expectations for staff and student behavior to area staff;
establish clear guidelines and expectations for policy enforcement and associated documentation with area staff;

attend weekly judicial meeting to review incident/personal concern reports;
disseminate sanctioning information to residence hall staff;
maintain judicial affairs data base/records for designated area;
consult with professional and student staff about personal concerns and roommate concerns of residents; coordinate follow-up, mediation, and counseling referrals as required;
meet with students and provide appropriate follow-up on disciplinary referrals (in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office), personal concerns, and roommate concerns;
set clear expectations and guidelines for student staff concerning confidentiality and reporting of psychological concerns, roommate conflicts and personal crises;
participate in nightly on-call rotation as second-tier support for graduate staff; respond to crisis situations on campus as needed.

Planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational, community development and social programming: work with Assistant Director for Residential Education and paraprofessional staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs designed to meet departmental learning objectives for residents;
review and approve area RA staff programming proposals; provide feedback to RAs to ensure that programs meet departmental goals and are successful;
monitor staff progress in meeting departmental programming requirements;
administer programming budget for designated area;
assist paraprofessional staff with training, supervising, and mentoring Hall Councils.

Present during RA trainings, serve as a facilitator for the RA Mentor Program ( RAMP ), and chair a Residence Life Committee/Collateral.
Participate in weekly office meetings and weekly meetings with supervisors. Participate in departmental functions and events, as scheduled. Participate in departmental, divisional and University meetings and committees, as assigned.
Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field.
Two years' experience in residence hall management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational, administrative management, and budgeting skills.
Ability to collaborate with professional, paraprofessional, and administrative support staff.
Must convey highest degree of professionalism, be a team player, and have strong attention to detail while providing vision and strategy.
Sophisticated knowledge of working with others, with conflict management and difficult conversations, strong facilitation skills.
The individual must have a deep commitment to the flourishing of Villanova University, its students and mission, and an understanding of Villanova's Augustinian and Catholic values and how these values inform our interactions with campus constituents.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn new technologies.
Genuinely cares about students, their well-being, and their success, along with their families.
Demonstrated familiarity with an sensitivity to cultural diversity concerns and anti-racism.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or related field.
Experience in higher education, customer service, and working with a variety of campus populations.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: The Residence Life Professional Staff interacts extensively with students and student paraprofessional staff. Consequently, it is common for meetings and events to be scheduled beyond traditional work hours. A member of the Residence Life Professional Staff should anticipate the need to work into evenings and on weekends, as necessary, throughout the academic year, particularly during staff training periods and in conjunction with opening and the closing of the residence halls. Additionally, members of the Residence Life Professional Staff may be asked to work beyond traditional work hours to manage crisis and/or emergency situations.

The Residence Life Office is a high-traffic and busy work environment with multiple peak periods of work activity across the calendar year. Interruptions of work tasks to attend to phone or walk-in inquiries are the norm. Customers, who include resident students and their parents, call frequently with problems, complaints and concerns that must be addressed with courtesy and accuracy.
