Functional Design Engineer

Description Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Functional Design Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Genoa, Italy.

Mission Deliver the functional design of small Signalling projects in accordance with industry and company standards.
Accountabilities Co-ordinate and manage competent resources and standard methods & tools to deliver contract and Company requirements; Ensure implementation of standard and efficient solutions, in compliance with strategic guidelines; Produce and implement Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) procedures; Support the production of suitable Purchase Technical Specifications (PTS); Ensure that external providers or contractors have suitable ITPs and PTS in place; Ensure the quality of the deliverables issued by resources under their responsibility; Resolve project issues internally before escalating to organizational authorities; Escalate issues to hierarchical managers when necessary; Coordinate the design and definition of the technical solution within their Work Package; Implement requirements management to IMS/GBMS and contract requirements; Implement the Design Plan and manage design execution; Ensure design assurance within their WP; Define interfacing requirements/specifications within their WP; Provide data and technical interfaces to support safety and RAM analysis. Other Responsibilities Serve as the interface affecting the WP on technical issues from inception to closure; Coordinate all technical discussions with the Authorities, Customer, Partners, Contractors, and Suppliers; Authorize the transmission of all technical documents to the Customer and Authorities; Agree and implement WP time and quality objectives with the Principal Project Engineer; Coordinate technical work within the Project Team; Ensure the finalization of the project solution and its realization through feedback collection; Agree on key technical risks and assist in the development of the risk matrix; Lead regular WP technical meetings, including Design Reviews; Provide all information to Engineering Team Managers for adequate resource staffing. Required Skills/Knowledge 5-10 years of engineering project delivery experience in a senior WP role; Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, supply chain, and engineering staff; Working knowledge of key UK health and safety procedures and legislation; Experience in multi-functional and/or international projects; Experience managing engineering budgets and costs; Flexibility regarding domestic and international travel; Demonstrable experience interfacing with customers, stakeholders, and suppliers; Ability to work on own initiative, setting clear targets and deliverables; A self-starter willing to take responsibility for delivery of goals; Familiarity with working in a project/functional matrix organization. Desired Skills/Knowledge Experience managing/operating in turnkey or signaling project teams; Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; Good communication skills; Demonstrates perseverance, patience, and commitment for long-term success; Good organization/time management skills; Enjoys challenges and problem-solving; Ability to work well under pressure; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Highly organized and methodical; A team player. Education/Qualifications Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/University Degree or Equivalent Technical Background.
