Posting Details (Default Section) Posting Number: 20244045S Position Title: Distinctive Collections Processing Archivist / Librarian I/II - 3-Year Term Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours Week Department: 288-Falvey Library Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Distinctive Collections and Digital Engagement, the 3-year term Distinctive Collections Processing Archivist will be responsible for the arrangement and description of distinctive collections materials according to national standards and best practices.Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order. Duties and Responsibilities: Processes, arranges, and describes archival and other heritage materials collections, composed of a variety of print and electronic formats, following national standards and best practices. Works with the Preservation and Digital Archivist to identify rehousing needs. Collaboratively works with the Distinctive Collections Archivist and Distinctive Collections Librarian on description of heritage materials.Assists and contributes to programs, goals and strategic initiatives of Falvey Library, Villanova University, and professional organizations, as appropriate. Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA -accredited institution, or an advanced degree in History with an archival concentration, required.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Collaborative approach to problem solving and working across organizational boundaries in service of user needs.Demonstrated ability to set priorities, exercise flexibility in meeting objectives, effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adjust as circumstances change.Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for developing and maintaining relationships with diverse user communities.Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills with the ability to present information and ideas clearly and concisely.High level of creativity, innovation, and strong concept skills.Strong customer service skills including the ability to be responsive to service needs of constituents in a courteous and consistent manner.Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and integrity according to University Policy regarding archival materials.Knowledge of contemporary archival practices, trends, and emerging technologies for managing, processing, and providing access to archival collections in physical and digital formats.Knowledge of digital library descriptive and imaging standards.Knowledge of DACS , EAD , DCRM , and other archival and rare materials best practices and descriptive and encoding standards.Knowledge of digital description software Archives Space, OCLC Connection, MS office suite. Preferred Qualifications: 1+ years of experience working with archival collections in an academic setting.1+ years of experience arranging and describing rare materials in an academic library or cultural heritage library/archive.Experience with creating finding aids. Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours: Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking for up to 4 hours at a time, frequent bending and lifting, able to lift up to 30 lbs. of library materials while moving/walking, pushing, and pulling a book truck (4 wheels) of library materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs., ability to climb several flights of stairs on an occasional basis.The Distinctive Collections Processing Archivist/Librarian may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays to meet service needs for outreach, donor relations, research support, and instruction.
