Center for Advanced Studies

Each year, two Global Fellowships funded by the Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse / Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano are awarded. The selected Fellows are offered the opportunity to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team at the Center for Advanced Studies on topics of common interest, linking personal experiences and research with the Center’s expertise.

The focus of the Fellowship is dedicated to contemporary and future social, political and economic challenges. The Global Fellows will receive a grant, which is compatible with other non-related working duties, university studies or other research topics.

Global Fellows' expected activities comprise:

- Participating in selected team activities, conferences and research meetings organized by the Center for Advanced Studies;
- Granting active participation in at least one of the projects undertaken at the Center for Advanced Studies, to be defined based on the Fellow’s competences and area of expertise;
- Delivering two lectures/presentations on the fellow's current research during public events or internal seminars;
- Writing 1-2 blog contributions for the Center for Advanced Studies’ online magazine;
- When applicable, contributing to joint publications and/or an edited books with the editors at the Center;
- Being available for press interviews and other relevant media work when applicable.

**Requirements**:

- Postdoctoral researchers or PhD-students;
- Interdisciplinary research;
- Interest for methodological pluralism;
- Motivation to participate in the activities of the Center for Advanced Studies and to deliver 2 presentations on the fellow's research during public events or internal seminars;
- Organizational skills and ability to work autonomously;
- Very good knowledge of written and oral English (good German and/or Italian are advantageous).

- the provisional title and short abstract (max. 200 words) of 2 potential lectures/presentations on the fellow’s area of expertise;

The envisaged duration of the Fellowship is 6 months. The exact start and end date will be agreed upon; however, the Fellowship should be completed by the end of the year 2023.

1) Culture, Art and Thought:

- and interdisciplinary explorations of utopian and dystopian futures; 2) Local Identities and Cultural Heritage in Transition; 3) Philosophy of Change._

2) Societal Discourses:

- The project focuses on the processes of formation, development and circulation of discourses, imaginaries, narratives and counternarratives - with particular regard to the roles of mass media - concerning crucial topics connected to the structural transformation of societies. It also investigates the sociopolitical effects of societal discourses. The project embraces three research paths: 1) Discourses about climate change; 2) Information and Media; 3) Gender and Intersectionality. _

3) Transformation and Sustainability:

- The main objective of this project is to contribute to a better understanding of ongoing transformation processes by analysing, evaluating and explaining past and present processes of societal change, identifying challenges related to currently dominant, unsustainable structures and playing an active role in exploring and promoting socially desirable alternatives. The project will focus on three main research paths: 1) Understanding societal change; 2) Measuring and monitoring transformation processes; 3) Fostering a socio-ecological transformation._
