OFFER DESCRIPTION The project aims at exploring a class of molecular activators mimicking the reactivity and function of methylaluminoxane (MAO), acting as complete cocatalysts for molecular olefin polymerization catalysts. Following the recent identification of the unusual Al-based borate salt {[iBu2(PhNMe2)Al]2(-H)}+ [B(C6F5)4] - (Al-H-Al+ [B(C6F5)4]- ), variations will be synthesized and studied to explore the effects of structural changes on reactivity via spectroscopic, computational, and high throughput experimentation (HTE) polymerization techniques. Potential advantages of this cocatalyst class over established systems will be evaluated, reduced Al/M ratios needed for optimal catalytic performance, tailoring ofcocatalyst for specific precatalysts, and improved kinetic regimes at high temperatures).
