Your 'day to day'
As a (Sr) Scientist / Engineer you will be a part of the Consumable and Process Technology group, accountable for the development of new components and materials for different types of smoke-free products.
You will become part of a flexible and remote team, having your base at Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna S.p.A. but working closely with other team members located in the R&D Center in Neuchatel, Switzerland. You will be reporting directly to the Manager Consumable Development, who is based in the R&D Center in Switzerland.
You will be involved in various projects and activities, asked to develop new materials and product functionalities, solve various scientific and technical challenges, find solutions and improve the quality and performance of our products. You will have to use your creativity and resourcefulness to find solutions as much as you can.
You will work in a team, but also lead and manage your own projects, and also support others by sharing your knowledge and experiences. You will have freedom to prioritize your work with full accountability for the results. We expect you to take ownership and responsibility in everything you do and accomplish your goals and targets in an efficient and timely way.
More specifically, you will
- Work on the development of new materials and product components for our smoke-free products
- Plan, coordinate and implement various development activities, collect and analyze data, understand the interactions between various factors and parameters and propose a way forward in order to reach your goals
- As your solutions are getting developed, you will have chance to support the industrialization and be part of the activities to bring new products and materials from development to large-scale manufacturing. One day you will be in the lab experimenting and the next day you may be watching one of your developments being used by the consumers.
- You will interact frequently with your colleagues and partners inside PMI but also with external partners and suppliers, sharing new ideas and finding solutions.
- You will guide and advise your partners during the development to achieve results and balance priorities
- Scout and identify new technological and product design opportunities, talk to potential new partners and suppliers and, in general, be up to date with the latest technologies and trends
- In everything that you do, compliance, quality and regulatory requirements are to be respected and ensured
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science, Physics or equivalent
- Meaningful and proven experience in research and material development is a plus
- Someone with a creative mindset, pragmatic, always looking for solutions and opportunities to improve and develop our products, ready to take a challenge, never give up
- A person that is curious, exploring, agile, and not late to take the lead, proposing new insights and solutions
- A person that can work independently with low supervision, not afraid to take their own decisions and responsibility
- A person willing to learn, explore and try without being afraid to do things differently and sometimes fail
- Highly developed communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to solve problems, think outside of the box when needed but also capable of understanding the context and sometimes see the big picture
- Familiarity with tobacco, food or pharmaceutical industry or regulated environment is a plus
- Team collaboration in cross-functional projects and implementing sophisticated design of experiments supported by statistical data processing would be appreciated
- Proficiency in English both in writing and speaking, Italian is a strong asset, and French is good to have.
