Mitophagytreat: Harnessing Mitophagy to Treat

OFFER DESCRIPTION Mitochondrial diseases are genetically inherited, clinically heterogeneous disorders mainly affecting post-mitotic tissues with high energy demand, such as the brain, the heart and the skeletal muscle. No effective treatment is currently available for these disorders. One attractive possibility is to induce the elimination of damaged mitochondria, a process named mitophagy, a selective degradation of mitochondria specific autophagy (mitophagy). MITOPHAGYTREAT aims at investigating the role of mitophagy in mitochondrial myopathies and the possibility to directly activate mitophagy as atherapeutic approach for mitochondrial myopathies. Compounds previously reported to activate mitophagy will be tested in vivo in a muscle-specific Cox15 knockout mouse which also expresses the MitoQC reporter of mitophagy to investigate their capacity to ameliorate the motor deficit and cytochrome c oxidase deficiency of the mouse model More Information Additional Information Eligibility criteriaEligible destination country/ies for fellows:
