The Director, Global Occupational Safety (OS) is the functional/technical expert for NCHC in the field of OS. By training, experience and accomplishments, this person is recognized as a functional/ technical leader both internally and externally. S/he is called upon to solve complex Occupational Safety problems in NCHC globally, communicating effectively at all levels and in multiple cultures. S/he leads and nurtures global Communities of Practice, mentoring junior staff to strengthen OS competency within the global organization. S/he is the face of NCHC to the external environment, representing the Company to government agencies, NGOs, trade associations, external suppliers, standard-setting bodies, etc. in the expertise area.

Occupational Safety includes but is not limited to: Severe Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention, machine safety, Permit to Work (including digital tools), warehouse/dock safety, fall prevention, EHS by Design, Incident Investigation, Robotics safety, cranes/slings/hoists, lone worker, construction safety, electrical safety, powered industrial vehicles, hazardous energy control, fire & explosion, emergency preparedness/response, and construction safety.

**Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Leads the SIF Prevention program with a focus on continuous improvement, use of predictive analytics to anticipate areas of focus.
- Steward processes that facilitate proactive identification of OS hazards and risks proposing controls, following the hierarchy of controls, to the NCHC organization. Exercise prudent judgment in recommending and selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for the OS issues under consideration.
- Provide EHS expertise to company management & engineering groups across NCHC in the development of solutions to complex, critical OS problems. Must be able to effectively influence and align teams at all levels across NCHC without explicit authority.
- Be an expert resource for external audits/inspections by government agencies.
- Ensure EHS is in a strong position to partner across the supply chain, assuring safety risks of new technologies being introduced into the workplace are adequately controlled.
- Advancing workforce safety by proactively seeking out new technologies (i.e., wearables, iSmart).
- Fluent in multiple engineering disciplines, communicate at a detailed technical level when exploring and establishing new and innovative technologies to be able to provide appropriate advice and counsel to ensure EHS risks are considered and adequately controlled. When necessary, demonstrate the ability to present complex information in an easily understood manner.
- Recognize and communicate when and how workplace OS excellence is firmly connected to positive outcomes and results.
- Provide support and/or lead incident investigations for significant and technically complex incidents as needed.
- Responsible for the content of EHS global strategy and standards related to occupational safety.
- Represent NCHC in the external environment with government agencies, NGOs, trade associations, standard-setting bodies, etc. and outside vendors/ consultants/ service providers. Act as leader in the external environment to shape laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to appropriate technical function(s) across all industries.
