We are looking for a NEO Observer to work from ESRIN’s premises based in Frascati, Italy.

**Tasks and Activities**:
The scope of work will include:

- Support networking activities of MS assets that will be implemented under independent future procurement actions in the following observational areas:

- Physical properties of NEOs
- Asteroid lunar impacts
- Atmospheric fireballs
- Support in the managing of the asteroid physical properties collected in parallel activities to be carried out in the frame of the tasks entrusted by the EU to ESA.
- Support dedicated telescope observation campaigns devoted to the determination of physical properties of NEOs.
- Interface with the NEO Coordination Centre team as needed.
- Interface with the ESA Data Systems and ICT groups where this intersects the development, deployment, testing and acceptance of NEO-related IT infrastructure and software, enabling consistent working level communication on pre-operational issues between Office activities and ESA DS/ICT where needed.
- Participate as an expert member in the NEO Workshops.
- Support reviews of NEO Service Development Roadmaps.
- Provide support for the organization of NEO segment related education, outreach and user needs discussion events related to activities entrusted by the EC.
- Provide technical input for the development and definition of the ESA work plans.
- Provide expert support to the definition of the NEO system architectural design
- Support the definition of NEO data models in the framework of the entrusted NEO service development activities.
- Provide expert support to the definition of NEO related international standards, as necessary.
- Support and coordinate the organisation of activities to promote the networking of European Union Member State institutions in relation to NEO aspects.
- Define and maintain an event preparation plan and report to be updated on a monthly basis.
- Define and maintain a list of possible and actual participants to the events.
- Define and maintain a budget planning and monitoring file for the organization of the events.
- Create an event web portal (e.g. using the Indico framework).
- Support in the actual implementation of the event.
- Ensure that all the activities are in compliance with ESA’s Data Protection Policy.
- Provide a summary report of each event no later than one month after the event.
- Provide a consolidated monthly progress report of the progress of all activities undertaken within frame of the service team WPs.

**Skills and Experience**:
The following skills and experience are mandatory:

- PhD or equivalent academic degree in NEO science or observation of NEO physical properties.
- Minimum of 10 years of working experience with NEO related topics covering each of the following domains: asteroid physical properties observations and derivation of asteroid geophysical properties.
- Minimum of 5 years of working experience with NEO related topics covering several of the following domains: asteroid dynamics, asteroid astrometrical observations.
- Experience in working with NEO data models.
- Experience in collaborating with other institutions to perform observations of NEOs.
- Experience in participating in international industry contracts.
- Practical experience in the organization of international technical workshops and conferences.
- Experience in communicating with international partners including space agencies, international entities and scientific community.
- Experience in explaining or lecturing asteroid and NEO related topics to academic community, students and general public.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

- Experience in analysis of asteroid lunar impacts and/or analysis of fireball data.
