An applied program in the subspecialty of Coloproctology, which will take place in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dept. of General Surgery, Humanitas Research Hospital, Rozzano, Milano, Italy.

- **Activities to be carried out by the applicant**:
Over 15 months the Fellow will take an active part in:
**Clinical and surgical activities**:the Fellow will be trained in all the coloproctology operation (for cancer, IBD and benign pathologies), mainly performed with a mínimally invasive (laparoscopic, robotic, transanal) approach. The Fellow will also actively take part in the management and surgical treatment of emergency cases. The Fellow - always followed by a tutor
- The Fellow will be furthermore actively involved in the following clinical activities:
- _Colorectal multidisciplinary meetings_ (both oncological and IBD)
- _Colorectal outpatients clinics_
- _Inpatients daily round_
- _Weekly Staff meetings_
**Educational activities and Research**:The Division has a strong focus on clinical and translational research. Furthermore there are active cooperations with the oncological and IBD Department as well as the preclinical research center.
The fellow will take part in the _weekly research Meetin_g and _will be encouraged to engage in one or more of the ongoing research projects. He will be also encouraged to manage his/her own research project independently with the aim to present the results in national and/or international meetings and achieve publications on indexed journals.
**Characteristics of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery**
**Background**
The clinical activity will take place at Humanitas Research Hospital, Rozzano, Milano, Italy, in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dept. of General Surgery.
The Division Colon and Rectal Surgery has a wide experience (> 800 colorectal resections per year) in the treatment of colorectal pathologies (cancer, IBD or other benign/inflammatory diseases). The clinical trial unit of the Division provides many high-level scientific publications per year. The Division has also a consolidated tradition for hosting many “Visiting Doctors” and “Visiting Professors” who have visited to improve their theoretical and practical knowledge in colorectal surgery.
**Clinical activities and resources**
- **Surgery**:Within the Division over 800 colorectal surgical procedures and 150 proctology procedures are yearly performed. 7 operative rooms are active every week (12 hours per OR).
- **Clinics**:4 NHS and 6 private outpatient clinics per week
- **Surgical ward **with elective and emergency operations.
**Teaching activities in the Division**
- Practical course on TTSS anastomotic technique since 2021 with dry-lab and wet-labsimulation
- Practical course on TAMIS since 2019 with dry-lab and wet-lab simulation
- Host of practical and theoretical courses for the SIC (Italian Society of Surgery) colorectal surgery training program
- Medical writing courses involving residents and specialist surgeons for clinical research.
- Surgical seminars given by Visiting Professors for general surgery residents.
**Research activities**:the papers published in peer-reviewed journals in the last 2 years are reported in the Bibliography section.
