**Organizational Setting**
The Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) provides support to the Secretariat of the Conference and the Council, and supports all Governing and Statutory Bodies of FAO. It houses the Multilingualism expertise of the Organization, delivering corporate language goods and services. CSG also provides Protocol and Meetings services to the Organization.

The post is located in the Spanish Translation Group of the Language Services Branch (CSGL) within the Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. CSGL oversees Corporate Multilingualism through interpretation, translation and terminology goods and services.

**Reporting Lines**
The Translator/Reviser (Spanish) reports to the Senior Reviser, Spanish Translation Group, CSGL.

**Technical Focus**
Timely translation or revision of meeting documents, publications, correspondence and other materials into Spanish.

**Key Results**
Translation/revision of FAO official documents for meetings and certain important publications to be carried out according to the highest quality standards.

**Key Functions**
- Translates/revises in the target language translations prepared by other staff or by external translators, ensuring consistency of terminology and style throughout the text;
- Produces versions in the target language which are equivalent to the original text in terms of accuracy, completeness, meaning, style and effectiveness;
- Conducts research, proposes additional terms for the established standards of terminology and glossaries;
- Consults with substantive units regarding possible inconsistencies or errors in the original text;
- Collects and verifies terminology and references and contributes to the linguistic research of the Unit, to the building and enhancement of terminology databases and to the selection of useful reference documents.

**Specific Functions**
- Translates FAO official documents from English or French into Spanish;
- Revises translations from English or French into Spanish;
- Contributes to the selection of external translators with the necessary skills for inclusion in the FAO roster of freelance translators;
- Promotes the adoption of new technology and the use of computer-assisted translation tools;
- Coordinates the work of other translators, monitoring the progress of work in relation to an agreed schedule, and contributes to training activities.

**CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING**

**Minimum Requirements**
- Advanced university degree in linguistic studies or translation, or in law, economics, agriculture or other FAO field of activity with a specialization in languages, and/or Diploma from an internationally recognized interpreter/translator school.
- Five years of relevant experience in translation/revision work.
- Excellent knowledge of Spanish.
- Working knowledge (proficient - level C) of English and French.
