About you and this role

We are looking for you, an ambitious student, to support our Application Development and TS EMEAI by doing an internship project in Fire rated technology for pour in place cavity filling, based on polyester polyols including renewable source materials for our location in Correggio, Italy.

The department that will welcome you The Application Development and TS department of Dow Italia, that is responsible for the development and implementation of innovative Polyurethane technologies addressing today and future market needs. In this specific project, the focus is on developing low density rigid foams as insulating material of panels manufactured by discontinuous process (cavity filling with one point injection) targeting fire properties and improved thermal conductivity, with the potential plus of chemistry at reduced carbon footprint. The final objective is to improve the overall performance / cost efficiency of currently commercialized product mix, with the potential plus to include sustainable chemistry into novel polyurethane materials in accordance with the European Green Deal policy areas.

**Responsibilities**:

- Research polyurethane chemistry for insulation and foam properties.
- Screen polyester polyols in model formulations, assessing reactivity and fire behavior.
- Evaluate polyester polyols in different foam technologies and catalytic packages.
- Validate experimental materials against commercial references.
- Verify lab results using industrial foam processing equipment.
- Characterize foam properties using advanced tools (e.g., image analyzer, cone calorimeter).
- Analyze shelf life of various solutions with different blowing agent technologies.
- Conclude project success and propose further development if needed.

**Qualifications**:

- You are currently studying for a Bachelor's or a Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, industrial chemistry, physics, material science or similar.
- You have a good knowledge of English, Italian is an extra plus.
- You have basic Knowledge of organic chemistry and polymer science.
- You have previously work in a chemistry laboratory.
- You are able to start as of January/February 2024 for a period of 4-6 months (exact date and duration will be discussed taking into consideration the university requirements).

- You have good learning skills.
- You are a team-player, you have curiosity and initiative.
