SENIOR TECHNICAL PRODUCT OWNER – ENTERPRISE FINANCIAL PLATFORM

Location: Remote with on-site travel once per week to client site (Milan, Italy)

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Duration: 12 months + strong potential for extension

Start Date: End of January or Early February

Rate: Negotiable (dependent on experience)

Language: Fluent Italian required, English professional working proficiency

Client: Large Enterprise Financial Services Organisation

Role Description

For one of our large enterprise financial services clients, we are seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner with a strong technical background to lead the evolution of complex digital products.

This role requires a delivery-focused, pragmatic Product Owner who is comfortable working closely with development teams and IT stakeholders, translating business needs into clear, technically feasible requirements. The ideal candidate moves beyond a purely marketing-led product mindset and actively engages with architecture, integrations, and technical constraints in an enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Own, define, and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring prioritisation, clarity, and quality
- Translate business requirements into well-structured, technically sound user stories and acceptance criteria
- Collaborate daily with development teams, architects, and QA
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Reviews, and Retrospectives
- Assess technical impacts, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs when prioritising work
- Support product and roadmap decisions using a data-driven approach
- Ensure alignment between product roadmap, technical constraints, and business objectives
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including IT teams and technology vendors
- Operate effectively within a complex, enterprise-scale, and regulated environment

Required Skills & Experience

- 3+ years’ experience as a Product Owner or in a comparable product role
- Proven experience working on complex digital products (web, mobile, enterprise platforms)
- Strong technical understanding, including:
- Application and system architectures
- Integrations and APIs
- Software development fundamentals and application lifecycle
- Legacy systems and modern technology stacks
- Excellent knowledge of Agile / Scrum frameworks
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Clear communication and synthesis abilities

Nice to Have

- Background in software development, system integration, or IT consulting
- Experience working in enterprise or multi-vendor environments
- Scrum certifications (PSPO, POPM, or equivalent)
- Experience acting as a Technical Product Owner
