Overview

The Renal Human Factor team is a vital component of the R&D organization that supports the Renal business. Within this team, we conduct Human Factor activities across all product phases, innovation initiatives, new product development, and enhancement programs for existing therapy systems. This collaborative role provides a direct opportunity to define solutions for new products and services aimed at patients, continuing Baxter's mission to save and sustain lives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead human factors engineering initiatives and research for medical devices and regulated healthcare products. Conduct human factors/usability studies (both formative and summative) for hardware, software, labeling, and disposable products. Design and implement usability evaluations to ensure safe and intuitive product use. Oversee the creation of a Use-Related Risk Analysis as part of the risk documentation for the products. Develop and communicate Human Factors project scope, plans, tasks, and deliverables with program teams; manage timelines to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting relevant information at key milestones through clear, concise oral and written communication. Collaborate with other R&D teams to develop product prototypes for user interface evaluation and validation. With minimal guidance, direct and coordinate all human factors activities necessary to complete a major product development program or several smaller projects. Lead efforts to establish processes and procedures that align with Baxter initiatives and FDA/international human factors standards. Provide technical supervision to less experienced human factors engineers and may oversee a small work group. Present and advise on human factors topics throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Proven experience in Human Factors Engineering principles and methodologies (ergonomics, usability evaluations, data collection, data analysis, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge of IEC, IEC 62366, and FDA HF/Usability Guidance Document, with experience in a regulated industry. Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both written and verbal forms. Proven ability to provide technical leadership for complex HFE projects.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent. 7+ years of relevant human factors experience. Experience in the medical device industry is preferred.
