Job Description

The Senior Dairy Trader will be responsible for purchasing and selling dairy commodities (both liquid and solid products), ensuring the development and management of commercial relationships, customer and supplier satisfaction, and the achievement of objectives set by the Commercial Director. The role also involves contributing to the company's activities to accomplish the desired competitive positioning in the national and international markets for which they will be responsible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development:
    • Evaluate and develop new channels, products, services, and partnerships to drive business growth.
    • Align activities with the company's strategy to achieve commercial objectives and expand market share.
    • Identify and capitalize on market opportunities and initiate innovative ideas to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Market Analysis:
    • Monitor and analyze market trends, demand/supply dynamics, and economic news to inform trading decisions.
    • Provide timely market insights and recommendations to colleagues to ensure informed decision-making.
    • Adapt trading strategies based on market conditions to maximize returns.
  • Commercial Management:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and suppliers to drive sales and revenue growth.
    • Negotiate deals, contracts, and resolve commercial issues minimizing risks and following up with logistics/quality and administrative departments.
    • Ensure accurate data entry and follow-up on contracts to maintain compliance and efficiency.
  • Leadership:
    • Train, mentor, and support junior traders, setting a positive example and promoting a culture of excellence.
    • Resolve operational issues and contribute to strategic direction alongside senior leadership to drive business success.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company guidelines to maintain a strong reputation and avoid risks.
    • Prepare and present reports on market activities, trading performance, and risk management to inform business decisions.
    • Maintain accurate records and update partner profiles to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Credit and Logistics Management:
    • Manage credit and debit positions, monitor customer debt, and perform debt recovery actions to maintain a healthy cash flow.
    • Cooperate with Logistics/Quality and other company functions to evaluate and manage possible risks and ensure smooth operations.
  • Partner Satisfaction:
    • Implement and manage commercial partnerships, ensuring contract compliance and performance to drive business growth.
    • Communicate potential issues and collaborate with other functions to improve partner satisfaction and maintain strong relationships.
    Requirements
    • Degree, preferably in Economic disciplines;
    • Proven track record in dairy trading, gained in highly dynamic commercial environments in the dairy or 'fresher' food and/or ingredients sector, with a good understanding of key customers/suppliers;
    • In-depth knowledge of trading of commodities or raw materials;
    • Ability to operate in a sector characterized by products with a very short shelf life;
    • Ability to manage complex trade negotiations;
    • Strong organizational autonomy, team player, and results-oriented;
    • Quick execution, excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities;
    • Fluent English and Italian language skills are required to successfully perform the role; knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
