Postdoctoral Researcher in Smart Navigation Systems for Visually Impaired People

As a postdoctoral researcher in electronic engineering, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on the design of a full-custom and battery-powered hardware device for navigation in smart cities. The device will be interfaced with a software application on a mobile device and will include several dedicated sensors and input devices to improve the autonomy of elderly visually impaired people while moving in the city.

The research focuses on the development of ad-hoc solutions to improve the state-of-the-art solutions, with particular emphasis on the improvement of the stock of knowledge in electronic engineering with high Technology Readiness Level (TRL), strongly oriented towards technology transfer.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • The design and prototyping of electronic systems using commercial components
  • The proactive cooperation in a multidisciplinary team involving mechanical and software engineers
  • The writing of the documentation of the implemented electronics to enable trials on subjects

Essential requirements:

  • PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunication, Microelectronics, and similar disciplines
  • Documented experience on the design of electronic circuits (custom electronic boards)
  • Good experience on firmware development for electronic systems
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Good command in spoken and written English

Additional skills:

  • Experience on Electronic PCB Prototyping
  • Knowledge of Arduino, C/C++ and Python Programming Languages
