YOUR RESEARCH TEAM
The Soft Robotics and Bioinspired Prototyping (SBRP) research line is directed by Dr. Lucia Beccai. You will engage with a diverse and interdisciplinary team, contributing to collaborative research efforts utilizing state-of-the-art facilities.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
The focus of this position is to conceptualize and engineer continuum manipulators inspired by the functional capabilities of the elephant trunk. Key objectives include:
- Exploration of innovative metamaterial-based soft actuators
- Development of advanced multidimensional soft gripping systems
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and fabrication of continuum manipulators and end-effectors
- Conduct parametric and topological optimization
- Perform kinematic modeling and analysis
- Characterize actuated systems and validate robotic prototypes
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a closely related field
- Proven experience and expertise in:
- Mechanical design and fabrication of tendon-driven and pneumatically actuated soft systems
- Numerical modeling (Ansys, Comsol) and simulation (MATLAB) of kinematics
- Computer-aided design and prototyping (SolidWorks, Siemens NX)
- Fabrication techniques for soft systems, including 3D printing
- A strong publication record
- Effective organization and dissemination of research findings
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
