About the Position:
The Access Services Technician provides support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing in-person customer service at the library service desk
- Conducting circulation transactions for patrons and answering their questions
- Searching for materials in the library catalog for patrons and directing them to reference librarians for research assistance
- Processing requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service
- Answering incoming phone calls to the library service desk
- Shelving returned books and maintaining book stacks
- Moving book carts
- Lifting and carrying books
- Searching for missing books
- Processing interlibrary loan materials and updating records in specialized library software and systems
- Scanning pages in journals and books for electronic delivery
- Shipping materials to other libraries via UPS software
- Opening incoming packages and sorting contents for processing
- Retrieving materials from local and remote locations
- Performing light clerical work, routine office tasks, and running errands as directed
- Participating and contributing to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle difficult situations and provide customer service
- Experience using hardware, software, and wireless network access
- Familiarity with the library's catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines
- Cross-training in multiple areas
