About the Position:

The Access Services Technician provides support to the Access Services department of Falvey Library. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing in-person customer service at the library service desk
  • Conducting circulation transactions for patrons and answering their questions
  • Searching for materials in the library catalog for patrons and directing them to reference librarians for research assistance
  • Processing requests and materials for the Pickup & Go holds service
  • Answering incoming phone calls to the library service desk
  • Shelving returned books and maintaining book stacks
  • Moving book carts
  • Lifting and carrying books
  • Searching for missing books
  • Processing interlibrary loan materials and updating records in specialized library software and systems
  • Scanning pages in journals and books for electronic delivery
  • Shipping materials to other libraries via UPS software
  • Opening incoming packages and sorting contents for processing
  • Retrieving materials from local and remote locations
  • Performing light clerical work, routine office tasks, and running errands as directed
  • Participating and contributing to library projects as assigned by Access Services staff

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and reliability
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with great accuracy and consistency
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle difficult situations and provide customer service
  • Experience using hardware, software, and wireless network access
  • Familiarity with the library's catalog, journals, databases, and web search engines
  • Cross-training in multiple areas
