Packaging Machine Operator Job Description

Job Summary: Ferrara is seeking a skilled Packaging Machine Operator to join our team in DeKalb. This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining various machines to ensure continuous production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Machine Setup: Set up and changeover packaging machines for production runs, adhering to work instructions, standards, and SOPs.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues during setup and changeover, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks, inspect filled containers, and remove rejected products as instructed by metal detector alarms.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with maintenance teams when mechanical issues arise, following escalation protocols and adhering to GMP and safety standards.
  • Additional Tasks: Assist with operating hand power jacks, performing WinSpc paperwork, and other duties to support Ferrara's business objectives.

Requirements:

  • Equipment Knowledge: Basic understanding of equipment capabilities, standards, and proper set points, including metal detectors, check weights, and Ishida scales.
  • Certifications: Ability to pass certification tests on pallet jacks and fork lifts.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to carry out detailed instructions.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to problem-solve by adjusting variables in standardized situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year experience operating packaging machinery and/or working in food manufacturing.
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Ferrara offers a competitive compensation package, benefits, and opportunities for growth and development.
