Senior Engineer for Functional Safety

The Senior Engineer for Functional Safety will play a crucial role within the Functional Safety Office, actively supporting Micron's prominent position in the Automotive and Industrial sectors through collaborative Functional Safety initiatives. This professional will oversee technical operations to ensure that Micron's Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) products comply with global Functional Safety regulations, such as ISO 26262, and will be directly engaged in producing various deliverables for key projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume the role of Functional Safety Manager for NVM products, coordinating technical teams and supervising related tasks.
  • Collaborate with Development teams to define safety architecture and associated documentation (SEooC, TSC).
  • Participate in formal evaluations of the technical content of multiple safety documents.
  • Assist in defining, refining, and maintaining processes and templates for compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of specific documents, leading the technical preparation for major projects.
  • Contribute to the adaptation of new Functional Safety standards to fit Micron's context (3rd edition of ISO 26262, IEC 61508, etc.).
  • Help develop training materials and educational programs at the corporate level.
  • Assess how artificial intelligence can enhance documentation management and customer support materials.
  • Work with the Product Line Manager to establish requirements for the Product Roadmap.
  • Act as a subject matter expert during internal and external audits and assessments for Functional Safety documentation related to both development processes and design-specific content.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the semiconductor industry (Design/PE/Qual).
  • Knowledge of non-volatile memory technologies.
  • System-level understanding is advantageous (automotive/industrial).
  • Familiarity with requirements management and traceability tools (Jama, Doors, Polarion, etc.).
  • Understanding of Functional Safety standards ISO 26262 is preferred, and/or IEC 61508 is beneficial with basic knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of Program Management and associated tools.
  • Understanding of Configuration Management principles.
  • A strong commitment to Functional Safety principles.
  • Attention to detail (meticulous and precise).
  • Highly effective communication and presentation/documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (including scripting/formulas).

Educational Background:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; job title may vary based on the candidate's experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to various international Micron locations.
