Emissions Calibration Engineer for High-Performance Automotive Engines

Ferrari S.p.A. is seeking an experienced Emissions Calibration Engineer to join its R&D Department in Maranello, Italy.

Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled professional to develop engine calibration ensuring compliance with emissions regulations in all target markets from homologation through to in-service testing.

  • The ideal candidate will work closely with the Engine Technical Office and Predevelopment Group to clarify exhaust aftertreatment expectations and provide regular feedback on experimental performance.
  • Regular discussions with the Certification and Regulatory Affairs office will be necessary to ensure alignment of homologation procedures and targets.
  • Monitoring emissions status and reporting anomalies on time over the entire project duration will be crucial through weekly updates, regular reports, and key gateways documentation.
  • Collaboration with base engine development engineers will be essential to ensure base calibration is fit for purpose for emissions, particularly with regard to catalyst heating.
  • Preparing calibrations for emissions testing as per procedures, following up on tests, and analyzing data leading to a new calibration release and report of activity will be a significant part of the role.
  • Working together with application engineers, especially OBD and Drivability, to ensure the overall calibration is fit for purpose and meets project targets will be vital.
  • Collaborating with Facilities engineers and operational staff to ensure efficient and accurate test preparation and execution will also be necessary.
  • Possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose improvements to hardware, software, and procedures, will be beneficial.
  • Following homologation testing to guarantee engineering targets are met will be critical.

The successful candidate will ideally have achieved excellent academic results with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and at least 3 years' dedicated experience in emissions, start, catalyst heating calibration, ideally of high-performance automotive GDI engines.

A detailed knowledge of modern SI engine aftertreatment systems, in particular Three-Way Catalysts and Gasoline Particulate Filters, along with knowledge and understanding of typical instrumentation for emissions testing and calibration software and result analysis software are mandatory.

Fluent English is required for the position, and Italian language skills are an advantage.

This permanent contract comes with a competitive salary range of €80,000 - €120,000 per year, depending on experience.
