We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Application Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing team at Avio Aero. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development of new materials and processes for additive manufacturing technologies.
Key Responsibilities- Research and Development: Conduct research and development programs on materials and processes for additive manufacturing technologies, including new materials down selection and innovative technologies development for high-temperature applications.
- Partner Identification and Collaboration: Identify partners, such as universities, research centers, and strategic suppliers, to build suitable plans for feasibility studies and understand the go/no-go criteria for materials and technologies selection.
- Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Support collaborative cross-functional teams, including materials, design, and manufacturing, to reach the technical maturity of advanced manufacturing methods using the TRL/MRL process.
- Technical Project Support: Provide technical support for projects and programs required to reduce technical risk associated with new materials and manufacturing methods, leveraging significant domain expertise in the advanced material field.
- Materials Application Engineering: Provide MAE support for parts under development that utilize new materials and manufacturing processes.
- Interface with Design Engineering and Supply Chain: Collaborate with design engineering and supply chain teams to establish requirements for materials and special processes, including material characterization, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and laboratory testing.
- Material Processing Issue Resolution: Support the resolution of material processing-related issues encountered during manufacturing, both internally and at suppliers, with an impact on the life cycle of the system.
- Material Chemistry and Properties Review: Review material chemistry, physical, and mechanical properties to substantiate manufacturing processes and detect trends that may indicate undesirable changes in product quality.
- Disposition of Discrepant Hardware: Determine the proper disposition of discrepant hardware through case records, in agreement with design engineering.
- Master's Degree in Materials Engineering: A master's degree in materials engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Advanced Materials Experience: Involvement or direct experience in advanced materials/manufacturing processes for aerospace applications.
- Research Experience: Involvement or direct experience in research activities.
- Additively Manufactured Materials Experience: Experience with additively manufactured materials.
- Materials Science Engineering Experience: Experience in a materials science engineering position.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English and Italian, both written and verbal.
- Work Visa: A work visa in accordance with local regulations is required.
- Strong Interpersonal and Leadership Skills: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Doctorate Degree in Materials Science: A doctorate degree in materials science or related disciplines.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Green Belt or Black Belt Certification: Green belt or black belt certification and/or statistics knowledge.
- Self-Starter and Independent Worker: A proven self-starter and independent worker who can work with cross-functional teams.
- Fast Action and Detailed Review: Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation.
