Job Title: Legal Officer

FAO is seeking a highly qualified Legal Officer to join its team. The successful candidate will provide legal advice on a wide range of matters, including international law, law of international organizations, and contract law.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on complex legal matters involving international, public, private, and administrative law.
  • Review and advise on contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Perform extensive legal research and analysis, and prepare legal opinions, studies, briefs, reports, and correspondence.
  • Advise on and participate in negotiations and settlement of claims and disputes.
  • Serve on various standing boards, committees, and working groups.
Requirements:
  • Advanced university degree in law.
  • Seven years of relevant legal experience in public international law, law of international organizations, international administrative law, and contract law.
  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.

Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work.

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and experience in drafting legal texts.

Extension of fixed-term appointments is based on certification of performance and availability of funds. FAO reserves the right not to make an appointment. Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances.
