Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Communications Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As a key member of our network operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of our local area, worldwide, and virtual private networks (VPN).

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, evaluate, and coordinate the installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication networks.
  • Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepare or ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 9 years experience with a HS Diploma/GED or Bachelor's Degree with 5 years experience.
  • US or NATO Secret Clearance required to start (Must be able to obtain a US Top Secret or NATO COSMIC within a year).
  • Ability to work any shift during 24 hour operations.
  • Experience with network management tools to monitor hardware devices, virtual machines, and network connections.
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals and Cisco IOS commands.
  • Basic understanding of Linux/UNIX commands.
  • Configuring router and switch interfaces in accordance with written documentation.
  • Troubleshoot networking equipment, including switches, routers, Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches, and firewalls.
  • Working knowledge of spanning trees, trunking, routing protocols, and IP subnetting.
  • Experience with WANs, encryption devices, multicast, OSPF, and Wireshark.
  • Assisting Field Engineers with troubleshooting activities.
  • Effectively respond to work schedule changes as needed to support mission requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of military and government customers.
  • Work effectively in small teams.
  • Must display a high level of initiative, work well with others, and take ownership of problems and proactively work them to resolution.
  • Knowledge of Information Security best practices.
  • Proven track record of troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with SIPRNet, other DOD networks or NATO networks.
  • CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 13 years experience with a HS Diploma/GED or Bachelor's Degree with 9 years experience.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot networking equipment, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Working knowledge of spanning trees, trunking, routing protocols, and IP subnetting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and execution of network engineering configuration changes and documentation in a complex IT environment.
  • Must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent customer interface skills, be a quick learner, and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while maintaining a can-do attitude.
  • Experience with WANs, Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches, encryption devices, multicast, OSPF, and Wireshark.
  • Familiarity with SIPRNet, DOD networks and/or NATO networks.
  • CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP certifications.
  • Experience reviewing work products produced by a team of engineers for quality, completeness, and adherence to established procedures and policies.
  • Experience planning and supporting network infrastructure deployment are highly desired.
  • Produce designs including system, logical, and connectivity drawings, and conduct testing of network designs.
  • Maintain technical expertise in diverse network and computer hardware and software areas, including interconnection and interfacing with various devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance network capabilities.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute detailed technical documentation such as checklists and operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Linux command line interface & standard toolsets.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and execution of network engineering configuration changes and documentation in a complex IT environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network engineers and independently on large field projects.
