About the role:

This position supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department. The Assistant Director of Technical Services assists in all aspects of hotel and building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint and decorating, and responds to inquiries and problems in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner.

The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule, ability to work weekends and holidays. Must be fluent in English and possess legal work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a part of the pre-opening team.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, disciplining, and planning of activities of maintenance department staff.
  • Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and that items are followed up on when necessary.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase and work orders and liaise effectively with the Director of Purchasing.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies and rules to ensure an efficient department.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other employees, providing instruction and encouragement as needed.
  • Assist in ensuring that effective preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Assist in planning and implementing procedures, systems and controls to ensure an efficient maintenance department.
  • Provide short- and long-term strategic direction for the facility in conjunction with all operational needs of the individual departments.
  • Directly supervise staff in carrying out work schedules as well as spot checking to verify quality and employee performance.
  • Ensure timely completion of all assigned responsibilities by shift Engineers and Engineering Managers.
  • Maintain logs on movement of stock items and tools.
  • Maintain par stocks and the distribution of items.
  • Handle the purchasing of equipment replacement parts and repairs.
  • Ensure that all meter readings on gas, electricity, water and domestic steam and water are taken daily and reviewed for consumption.
  • Set-up fire line safety system, valve locations and other emergency procedures that involves the department.
  • Ensure effective communication and good relations between the maintenance department and other departments in the Hotel and Residence.
  • Prepare and follow through on any projects as outlined by the Director of Engineering.
  • Assume the duties of the Director of Engineering in his/her absence.
  • Support the energy conservation program.
  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency of safety situation.
  • Ensure a clean, neat, and organized work area.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.
