Mechanical Design and Thermal Engineering Lead

Job Summary:
The Head of Mechanical Design and Development will be responsible for leading the mechanical and thermal design team in the development of high-precision and complex units for extreme environments, particularly in the space industry.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identify system concepts and technical requirements to meet mission objectives, considering technical and programmatic constraints.
- Define general layouts through concurrent engineering, including configurations, materials, and off-the-shelf components.
- Execute structural and thermal analyses, and conduct mechanical and thermal trade-offs.
- Prepare contractual documentation for milestones, including technical reports, presentations, drawings, and technical budgets.
- Critically assess mechanical drawings of assemblies and parts.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to select and define manufacturing processes and procedures for space-qualified RF components.
- Support the implementation of components purchase and development plans.
- Consolidate experience on testing and qualification capabilities and procedures.
- Support proposal preparation for industrial and R&D activities.
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, achieved with top score within 6 years.
- At least 5 years of work experience in mechanical design, analysis, and development of high-precision and complex units for extreme environments.
- Desirable: Previous work experience in thermal design, analysis, and development of high-precision and complex units for extreme environments.
- Desirable: Previous employment in a space industry design department with responsibility in thermo-mechanical design, analysis, and development of satellite components.
- Desirable: Previous experience in team leading.
- Extensive experience in thermo-structural design of units and components, supported by hand calculations and FEM analyses.
- 3D CAD solid modeling to support conceptual design.
- Concurrent engineering of configurations, materials, thermal-mechanical trade-offs, off-the-shelf components, etc.
Skills and Tools:
- Use of standard methods for design of mechanical assemblies and components.
- FEM analyses: linear, non-linear, thermal stress, dynamic.
- Excellent knowledge of CAE tools: MSC Patran/Nastran, Siemens NX CAE/Simcenter, Altair Hypermesh/Hyperworks.
- Excellent use of office automation software (MS office).

- Fluent in Italian and English, both technical and non-technical, written and spoken.
