Position Overview

This role is for a Senior Engineer specializing in Functional Safety. The successful candidate will be instrumental in implementing the Functional Safety lifecycle for mechatronic developments. Collaboration with other Dana Functional Safety Experts across various teams is essential to ensure uniform results regarding the functional safety of Dana's mechatronic offerings.

Key Responsibilities and Challenges

This position involves:

  • Supporting the execution of the Functional Safety lifecycle for mechatronic innovations.
  • Collaborating with fellow Dana Functional Safety Experts to achieve consistent functional safety outcomes.
  • Actively engaging in the strategy and implementation of the functional safety lifecycle.
  • Working alongside engineers and external partners, including Functional Safety consultants, involved in program and project initiatives.
  • Producing essential work products, which include:
    • Safety Verification and Validation activities.
    • Managing problem resolution and tracking processes, providing updates on the status of issues to key stakeholders as necessary.
Main Duties

Contribute to the strategy and execution of the functional safety lifecycle.

Engage with engineers and external partners (including FS consultants) involved in program and project work. Generate all necessary work products, including but not limited to:

  • Safety Plans
  • Safety Manuals
  • Safety Concepts
  • ASIL ratings and decomposition
  • Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
  • Safety Requirements
  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) & Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Safety Verification and Validation activities
  • Confirmation measures
  • Safety Cases

Lead and direct the problem resolution and tracking process, ensuring effective communication of the status of tracked issues to key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Automotive, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Professional Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility and hands-on experience with vehicle system architectures and control systems.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a similar role focusing on functional safety of automotive products.
  • Experience with functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, EN 13849, ISO 26262, and others related to systems, hardware, and software development.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 and practical experience working with its principles.
  • Expertise in safety concepts, hazard analysis, risk assessment, FMEA, and FTA at both system and sub-system levels.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and their application in a multidisciplinary context (electronics, software, mechanical hardware, hydraulics).
  • Proven ability to elicit and implement requirements from design through to production.
  • Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, or Integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, across all organizational levels.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Desirable Skills
  • Functional Safety experience in automotive applications, particularly in Powertrain and EV sectors.
  • Knowledge of requirements engineering and Automotive A-Spice.
  • Familiarity with SysML/UML.
  • Ability to lead strategic initiatives while also being hands-on in execution.
  • Strong analytical skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
