Job Title: Food Security Analyst

Type of Contract: Consultancy

Division: Analysis, Performance & Planning (APP) – FA- Assessment and Targeting unit

Duty Station (City, Country): HQ-Rome

Duration: 11 months

Background and Purpose of the Assignment:

WFP provides actionable food security information for each country in which it works. Through food security analysis and monitoring, the organization identifies food insecure populations and establishes the underlying causes of food insecurity.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the VAM Officer, the Consultant will support the ongoing food security assessment with a focus on country office support and emergency surge.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of food security assessments in emergencies;
  • Provide technical guidance to country offices on needs assessment and use of assessment data for targeting;
  • Develop new guidance and update standard WFP guidance notes based on research results;
  • Support the development of WFP methodologies to needs number estimation;
  • Build WFP capacity to converge several food security outcomes to estimate food security needs;
  • Provide support to IPC analysis and other interagency analysis platforms;
  • Support data standardization processes and promote the use of standardization materials and platforms;
  • Provide regular support to needs assessment activities and analysis when needed;

Deliverables at the End of the Contract:

  • Needs assessments in at least 2 country offices are completed and report published;
  • Technical assistance to at least 5 country offices is provided;
  • At least one WFP guidance note is updated;
  • One technical training is delivered.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Education: Degree in social science, geography, economics, statistics, development, international relations, or related field

Experience: 7 years work experience in relevant field

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good communication skills, proven experience in technical report-writing;
  • Knowledge of food security conceptual framework;
  • Strong experience in data management and standardization;
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills;
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages (minimum SPSS, STATA optional) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Field-level experience;

Languages:

Fluency in English, proficiency in French

Terms and Conditions:

WFP offers a competitive compensation package which will be determined by the contract type and selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
