Position Overview

Job Title: Harness Designer

Objective:

The primary aim of this role is to ensure the design of harnesses and their integration within various products, such as traction systems, electrical cubicles, power modules, and switchgear. This will be achieved by adhering to established design protocols, ensuring product feasibility, complying with relevant standards, and following the Alstom development process (DFQ).

Organizational Structure

Hierarchical: Electrical Domain Leader

Functional: Traction Domain Leader / Cubicle Domain Leader

Department: Traction Design

Key Responsibilities

Performance Metrics:

Adherence to QCD commitments (Quality, Costs, Delay)

• Deliverables must be right the first time (No modifications due to design errors post-FEI);

• Ensure compliance with electrical and schematic design standards.

• Incorporate lessons learned, standards, and contractual obligations into deliverables.

• Produce deliverables considering Schematics & Apparatus and project inputs (CPS, WD, E BoM...).

• Integrate related requirements from various disciplines: Advanced Industrialization, Harness Design, EMC, and Maintainability.

• Manage project timelines effectively through retro planning.

• Collaborate with mechanical designers and manufacturing engineers to create 3D models (routing) for each harness, including the design of metallic supports and components for electrical installations.

• Oversee the detailed electrical harness design deliverables, including BoM kits, formboards, ERP & DMA BoMs, wiring lists, plug maps, instruction sheets, and lists of jigs & tools.

• Ensure timely launch of prototypes and proper storage following official release (DMA, GSI, TED, SEE ONE, etc.).

• Organize and lead reviews of harness design deliverables, the Electrical Process review (detailed phase), and participate in the Electrical Process DR managed by S&A designers.

• Update deliverables in response to modifications (harness suppliers, internal or TT manufacturing, etc.).

• Address FQR inquiries, resolve identified issues, and manage gaps to facilitate retrofitting of harnesses.

• Ensure expertise in terminal ends and cabling for the product/project.

• Drive innovation and contribute to enhancements in electrical harness design processes in collaboration with the skill leader:

• Update standard practices

• Optimize software tools

• Improve electrical domain capabilities (CATIA Electrical, CATIA Sheet Metal, FAO, SEE ONE, etc.).

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Electrotechnical, Electromechanical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional experience as an Engineer with Electrotechnical or Electromechanical skills [beginner/junior; less than 3 years].
  • Proficient in DMA/Catia Electrical, Catia Sheet Metal; Cabling/Wiring list software.
  • Familiarity with SEE ONE, GLC, ELSA, and/or ERP systems (e.g., SAP/GSI) is advantageous.
  • Strong command of the English language.
