Job Description

The Application Engineer is a key role at Kubota, responsible for ensuring the successful installation and operation of our diesel engines. In this position, you will work closely with our OEMs, Sales, and engineering teams to provide technical support and ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise customers on technical issues, product performance, and other concerns, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform engine testing and application reviews, ensuring that our products are installed and operating correctly.
  • Prepare detailed application reports and compile test data, providing valuable insights and recommendations for product improvement.
  • Monitor and recommend new techniques to improve engineering and product performance, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and advancements.
  • Consult with coworkers, including those in Japan, on engineering theory, technical issues, and application techniques, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical bulletins, instruction material, engine specification sheets, and other documentation, ensuring that our products are properly supported and maintained.
  • Communicate and maintain confidential information and material, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discretion.
  • Follow safety guidelines and department and corporate policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work proactively and independently, with a strong sense of initiative and motivation.
  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering, mechanics, and electronics involved in the installation and operation of diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol and diagnosis, as well as electrical testing and oscilloscope usage.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and other stakeholders, providing clear and concise updates and reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving and discernment skills, with the ability to make sound decisions and recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data, identify trends and patterns, and make informed decisions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, as well as CAD and other engineering tools.
  • Ability to travel, possibly overnight, often with last-minute notice, and to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders in different locations.

Education and Training

An associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent vocational training is required, as well as 3-5 years' experience with industrial diesel engines or a similar product, including engine installation and testing.

Physical Demands

The ability to drive a car and travel by air is required, with occasional overnight stays and possible international travel.
