Job Overview
This position is responsible for overseeing fabric & materials related matters, driving innovation in sourcing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of fabric sourcing strategies that meet business objectives.
- Collaborate with Design, Development, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure seamless execution of fabric development processes.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive material reference library, ensuring timely updates and access to relevant information.
- Collaborate with textile technologists and/or mills to resolve technical issues and improve raw materials.
- Manage materials from development initiation through final delivery, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Evaluate and negotiate costs with suppliers to meet target prices.
- Develop and maintain seasonal material charts, core collections, and fashion boards for high-level meetings, along with the seasonal research fabric library.
- Resolve operational problems, issues, and concerns, updating relevant team members.
- Collaborate with sourcing teams, overseas fabric teams, and mills to resolve fabric quality issues.
- Develop alternatives for adopted fabrics that meet merchant needs and target price points.
- Maintain material archives and libraries.
- Review material developments, trials, and hand looms with Design for approval.
- Update the system with new materials at the start of each season or upon approval.
- Ensure the sampling process adheres to business requirements.
- Foster relationships with suppliers and offices.
- Perform competitor research and analysis.
