Job Title: Indigenous Peoples Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Indigenous Peoples Specialist to join our team at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous Peoples and their organizations to support the implementation of the FAO Policy on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the establishment of strategic partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and their organizations
  • Advocate for the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples within FAO's mandate
  • Provide technical support to FAO technical units and project teams on Indigenous Peoples' work
  • Assist in the organization and delivery of capacity development sessions on Indigenous Peoples and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)
  • Support the analysis and recommendation of projects and programmes submitted to the Indigenous Peoples Unit
Requirements:
  • University degree in agricultural sciences, development studies, environmental science, social sciences, or any field related to FAO's mandate
  • At least one year of relevant experience in public and/or private sectors related to reporting, outreach, and programming in food and agriculture
  • Working knowledge of English
FAO Core Competencies:
  • Technical/Functional Skills: Work experience in more than one location or area of work, excellent analytical and conceptual skills, Indigenous Peoples and cross-cultural competency
Selection Criteria:
  • Limited knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian is an asset
