Job SummaryThe Society of Florida Archivists Inc is seeking a highly skilled Senior Archivist to join our team. As a Senior Archivist, you will be responsible for the accessioning, processing, and management of archival collections representing a wide variety of formats.
Key Responsibilities- Collection Management
- Assist in clarifying and documenting collection scope with management and other library staff.
- Create written processing plans for collections, stipulating depth and order of materials to be processed.
- Evaluate processed collections to ensure compliance with initial processing plans.
- Arrange and describe materials according to approved processing plans, and perform basic preservation work.
- Supervision and Team Management
- Supervise a team of archivists, interns, and volunteers.
- Set clear goals and ensure team members understand expectations.
- Provide training, instruction, or coaching as needed.
- Delegate tasks and set deadlines.
- Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
- Digitization and Access
- Collaborate with other library staff to coordinate location and shelving decisions.
- Identify items for digitization to support digitization efforts.
- Work with management to set priorities for digitization of archival collections.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure collections are accurately and appropriately available on the website.
- Oral History and Exhibitions
- Collaborate with staff and contractors to create and maintain a robust Oral History collection.
- Identify and curate materials for displays, exhibitions, publications, classes, and digital productions.
- Preservation and Conservation
- Work with the Preservation Specialist to set priorities for repair and conservation of archival materials.
- Collection Development
- Identify collections held by individuals and organizations that the Society of Florida Archivists Inc should consider acquiring.
- Professional Development
- Stay up-to-date with developments in archival standards and apply new rules, interpretations, and techniques as appropriate.
- Advanced degree in Library Science or a relevant academic discipline.
- Minimum of five years' experience processing and cataloging archival collections.
- Supervisory or managerial experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant aspects of library operations, including contemporary archival practices and emerging technologies.
- Experience preserving, arranging, and describing archival collections.
- Ability to rapidly learn and implement new descriptive practices.
