Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Forest Applications Scientist to join our team at the European Space Agency. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and implementing projects supporting the development of innovative Earth Observation forest-related applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Earth Observation applications research and development projects in the context of ESA programmes.
  • Organise thematic consultation meetings, workshops and conferences to review state-of-the-art EO forest-related applications.
  • Pioneer EO products, analytics, workflows and precursor services in relation to forest applications.
  • Maintain a multi-mission synergy approach.
  • Leverage cloud computing environments, big data analytics and cutting-edge information technologies.
  • Facilitate the uptake of developed applications by various end-user communities.
  • Strengthen and establish partnerships with key policy stakeholders and user organisations.
  • Demonstrate the upscaling potential of forest-related applications towards global products and monitoring dynamic processes.
  • Support the collection of evolving user needs for future EO mission applications.
  • Foster communication and scientific publications on project achievements.
  • Support the preparation and definition of relevant future new ESA programme elements.
Requirements
  • A master's degree in remote sensing, geophysics or relevant subjects.
  • At least five years of experience in relevant remote sensing applications development and research.
  • Result Orientation, Operational Efficiency, Fostering Cooperation, Relationship Management, Continuous Improvement, Forward Thinking.
Important Information

Recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience, the position may be filled at A1 level.

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment.
