Our Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing Team is experiencing significant growth while continuing to serve a robust base of private equity and infrastructure investor clients.

We are seeking a Principal Consultant to enhance our EMEA operations, collaborating across ERM's various industry teams and business lines to create impactful 'Investment Grade' decarbonization strategies that align with the objectives of both portfolio companies and General Partners, ensuring swift implementation.

The Principal Consultant will leverage existing client relationships while cultivating new connections within the private markets investment sector. You will provide leadership that inspires and engages staff at all levels, contributing to ERM's mission of delivering value-driven decarbonization strategy development and execution projects.

  • Formulating commercial strategies to identify and secure new business opportunities that drive substantial revenue growth.
  • Overseeing the initiation and execution of our clients' decarbonization initiatives, collaborating with their ESG, climate, investment, and operational teams, as well as portfolio company management, to develop comprehensive decarbonization and energy transition fund strategies, assess performance against climate metrics, and prepare for successful exits.
  • Partnering with our clients' ESG, investment, and operational teams, along with senior management of portfolio companies, to design and implement 'Investment Grade' decarbonization plans for both new and existing investments, ensuring alignment with broader portfolio and firm-level ESG and energy transition objectives.
  • Leading cross-functional teams across ERM's sustainable energy solutions, M&A, digital, and Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change expert groups.
  • Providing expert insights and guidance to clients and portfolio company management on transforming decarbonization initiatives into value-generating business models for sustainable long-term growth.
  • Directing energy transition and climate-focused due diligence projects throughout the investment lifecycle, focusing on key ESG and low-carbon economy drivers to enhance value and mitigate operational risks, while offering recommendations for post-investment decarbonization initiatives.

To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • Experience in delivering 'investment grade' decarbonization plans that are board-ready, fully costed, and supported by detailed ROI and MACC analysis.
  • A comprehensive understanding and proven track record in developing plans that extend beyond operational savings to encompass broader business value through increased revenues, improved competitive positioning, reduced operational costs, and enhanced brand reputation.
  • Experience in managing and successfully executing decarbonization programs for companies, with a clear understanding of how these operational projects integrate within private equity and infrastructure clients' decarbonization strategies, targets, and investment processes.
  • A deep knowledge of energy efficiency measures, renewable energy procurement, low-carbon solutions, industrial decarbonization, and sustainable value chain initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth familiarity with private equity and infrastructure investors and their portfolio operations teams.
  • Experience in leading strategic engagements at the C-suite level, guiding senior management teams in developing GHG inventories, decarbonization roadmaps, and establishing credible net-zero and science-based targets.
  • Knowledge of energy transition investing, experience with validated Science Based Targets, and understanding of decarbonization in infrastructure, private equity, and real estate.
  • Familiarity with TCFD, SBTi, ULI Greenprint, LEED & BREEAM certification standards, as well as IRIS+, The Impact Management Project, and the Operating Principles for Impact Management.
  • A background in consulting is advantageous but not mandatory.
