About the Role

We are seeking a skilled AWS Data Center Engineer to join our team in Milan, Italy. As a Colo Regional Engineer, you will be responsible for driving Mechanical/Electrical Engineering services, construction, and implementation of enterprise data centers that meet quality and performance levels across the globe.

You will work directly with our Design Engineering Stakeholders, Construction, Operations, and Commissioning teams regionally and globally. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing designs for new Data Centers in your region, including design input, submittal review, and incorporating AWS products to ensure the design meets AWS expectations.
  • Acting as a resident engineer during new colo construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Troubleshooting, conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and creating Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Providing technical support to the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Supporting operating partners to lead, review, and approve designs for existing co-location (colo) data center upgrades that improve availability/efficiency.
  • Interface with operating partners, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
  • Working on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiating and leading engineering site audits within leased or colo data centers, producing reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation's.

A day in the life of a Colo Regional Engineer at AWS will be dynamic and challenging, with opportunities to work on projects locally and globally. You will prioritize your activities to support data center capacity availability and safety, focusing on the actions that are most impactful.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Cumulative 4+ years of experience with industrial or commercial engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience directly related to data center design and in-depth understanding of related critical equipment.
  • Basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data centers (including but not limited to: variable frequency drives, chillers [air-cooled and water-cooled], pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, air economizers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission-critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Experience as a resident engineer or hands-on (in the field) design consultant.
