About the Role:

The Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in helping the business win good orders by providing technical support to the sales team and ensuring the technical content of all quotations is complete and accurate. This includes carrying out customer trials and testing machines to ensure the business can successfully make performance commitments to the customer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and discuss customer requirements with Sales Executives/Sales Administration to agree on the equipment and options to be offered to maximize the business opportunity.
  • Review all quotation requests to ensure they are technically complete and correct, including customer specifications for output, pack quality, and performance commitments.
  • Provide technical support to Sales Executives through phone, email, meetings, and customer visits.
  • Arrange and supervise machine demonstrations and trials for customers, including trials to support performance commitments.
  • Support customer Pre-Delivery Inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests, ensuring customer objectives are fully understood and met.
  • Undertake machine installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Tests at customer sites, working with the Field Service Team.
  • Provide technical support for new machine development projects during development and testing phases.
  • Work with engineering teams to provide descriptions and costs of bespoke parts required to meet customer needs.
  • Assess installation time requirements and advise the Service team for inclusion in quotations.
  • Participate in Engineering team's technical review of all orders received.
  • Work with Sales Administration Team to provide technical input into equipment price lists.

Requirements:

  • Qualified with a mechanical or electrical engineering degree level or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a broadly similar engineering role.
  • At least 3 years' experience of the practical operation of packaging machinery and systems in customers' factories.
  • Experience in dealing face-to-face with customers, professional and well-presented manner, articulate and able to communicate clearly.
  • Responsible and able to work in a dynamic environment, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Commercially aware, particularly when liaising with customers.
  • High level of attention to detail, able to effectively use standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Flexible on working hours, physically active and able to work (including lifting, other requirements of the role).

Preferred Requirements:

  • Project Management experience.
  • Hands-on ability to operate VFFS equipment and feeding systems.
