Solutions Design Engineer, Operations Engineering Specialist

About the Role

Amazon is seeking an experienced Solutions Design Engineer to join our Operations Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions to complex material handling challenges in our EMEA fulfillment network. You will work closely with vendors, suppliers, and other teams to create optimal solutions for our operations. Your expertise in design, innovation, and research & development will be essential in driving process improvement initiatives and developing new and existing fulfillment center layouts. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of projects and tasks. Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and develop engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges in our EMEA fulfillment network.
  2. Lead and coordinate concept and design development efforts for optimal solutions for our operations.
  3. Work closely with vendors, suppliers, and other teams to create innovative solutions.
  4. Manage high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
  5. Conduct post mortem on designs after implementation in partnering with Safety and Operations.
  6. Collaborate with the Fulfillment Center start-up team and launch team to ensure every detail is thought through and documented using a layout, module, or Standard Operating Procedure and change control.
  7. Develop, document, and update design standards in conjunction with worldwide design teams.
  8. Build strong working relationships with key company partners such as EMEA Start-up, EMEA Launch team, Worldwide Design team, Procurement, Information Technology, Loss Prevention, Facilities, Safety, Change Management, and EMEA Operations.
  9. Ability to travel up to 30% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering or related STEM field.
  2. Extensive experience in Design/Innovation, Research & Development, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering.
  3. Experience with complex MHE and packaging lines or process design based on Lean Manufacturing or Toyota Manufacturing System.
  4. Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
  5. Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams.
  6. Fluency: English (verbal & written).
  7. Ability to travel up to 30% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. MBA, Master's Degree or other advanced degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering, Operations, Business Administration or related field.
  2. Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
  3. Proficiency in AutoCAD and other 3D CAD.
  4. Proficiency in using advanced simulation modeling tools (Flexsim, Arena, Simio, etc).
  5. Proficiency in running SQL queries and data mining.
  6. Experience in engineering and estimating material handling and storage systems.
  7. Operations Management/ Fulfillment/Distribution Center experience preferred.
  8. Capital project management skills.
  9. Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
  10. Design-in-Safety experience.
  11. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  12. Ability to manage, influence, negotiate, and communicate with external business partners and internal teams to meet organizational capacity needs.
  13. Participation during a previous new FC Launch at Amazon in any role would be desired.
  14. Germany, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
