Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Space Systems Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the Data Quality Manager, covering aspects related to Instrument Performance, Operational Processors (particularly L1) and Calibration (particularly offline calibration).

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Operational Processors Support: Collaborate with stakeholders using collaborative tools to ensure seamless communication during Phase E2.
  • L1 Processors and Offline Calibration Review: Conduct thorough reviews of L1 processors and offline calibration processors to ensure optimal performance.
  • Documentation Planning and Preparation: Develop and maintain documentation for Phase E2 data quality activities, including processor maintenance and evolution, as well as product monitoring.
  • Level 1 Testing and Acceptance: Support the testing and acceptance of Level 1, focusing on white-box testing to acquire in-depth understanding of processing algorithms and detailed working of processors.
  • Documentation Review: Review documentation from various sources, including ESA and Industry, during project phases dealing with sub-systems implementation and testing.
  • Technical Note Generation: Generate technical notes whenever needed during relevant project phases.
  • Anomaly Investigation: Provide support to instrument anomaly investigations, specifically tracing anomalies from the instrument back to L1b data.
  • Tool Operations: Operate various supporting tools for processing functionality.
  • Anomaly Mitigation: Support investigation of anomaly mitigation either on instrument settings or calibration processors.
  • Offline Calibration Processor Updates: Assist in updating Offline Calibration Processors and derive/provide updated instrument and CCDB settings.
  • Mission Post Launch Support: Interact with Mission Post Launch Support and associated industry, as well as the DISC.
  • Progress and Planning Meetings: Participate in progress and planning meetings relevant to tasks.
  • Mission Advisory Groups and Quality Working Groups: Participate and provide support to Mission Advisory Groups and Quality Working Groups upon request.
  • Workshop Planning: Plan workshops as necessary.
  • Processor Integration: Support integration of processors within processing centers.
  • Integration and Validation Tests: Define, run, and analyze integration and validation tests procedures, and generate test reports.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills, team spirit, and the ability to work autonomously, writing technical notes, specifications, and reports in English.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A university master's degree or equivalent qualification in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation.
  • A good understanding of geophysical sciences and/or specific instruments such as LIDAR, Radiometer, and MultiSpectral Imager.
  • Experience in instrument development and on-ground testing.
  • Experience in developing instrument L1 ATBD.
  • Experience in instrument and data monitoring.
  • Experience in data quality control.
  • Experience in operational processors development.
  • Experience in calibration activities.
  • Fluent English language (oral and written).

Desirable skills include:

  • Good knowledge of the ESA Earth Explorers missions and processes related to their PDGS development.
  • Programming skills to develop tools for engineering, testing, and validation activities.
  • A sound knowledge of containerization technologies and virtual environments.
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards and documentation and configuration control management techniques.
