Job Summary

Villanova University seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Research Protections. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the university's research protection functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of responsible conduct of research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operations of institutional research protection functions, including the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Financial Conflicts of Interest Committee.
  • Manage a team of staff responsible for day-to-day administrative responsibilities, providing professional development, coaching, and overseeing progress toward mutually stated goals.
  • Maintain institutional documentation and records related to research protections functions, ensuring that ORP systems and processes capture sufficient data and support or complement the research protections program.
  • Contribute to the development of institutional policies, procedures, and performance metrics as they relate to research protections.
  • Collaborate with faculty to effect job duties and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5 years experience in a university research protections environment required.
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines governing human subjects research, research involving animals, research biosafety, and research-related conflicts of interest.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills required.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and data analytics skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field strongly preferred.
  • 7-10 years experience in a university research protections environment preferred.
  • In-depth expertise in human subjects research preferred.
