Job Summary:

U.S. Army Europe And Africa is seeking a highly skilled Firefighter (Firefighting Equipment Operator) to join our team. As a Firefighter, you will be responsible for providing fire and emergency service response for multiple sites involving diverse fire hazards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assigned to a firefighting crew responsible for emergency response on the Army installation(s).
  • Providing fire and emergency service response for multiple sites involving diverse fire hazards including highly flammable liquids, high explosives, and other non-standard hazards.
  • Involved in the full spectrum of fire and emergency service response assigned to the Garrison Fire Department, including a wide variety of firefighting, hazardous material response, and related aid and rescue work.
  • Interacts with Host Nation responders and potential multi-agency emergencies during combined responses.
  • Drives and operates a staffed heavy emergency firefighting unit to fire emergency, incident, or drill sites.
  • Operates pumps, foam generators, and other related equipment.
  • Assures the proper functioning of all firefighting and rescue systems of the unit.
  • Performs maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, extinguishers, and facilities.
  • Participates in training sessions in-house, at joint exercises or at outside service providers such as fire schools.
  • Prepares and gives specific training sessions based on assignment of department training officer.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have one year of general work experience, that is any type of work, not necessarily related to firefighting.
  • A command of the English language sufficient to understand basic Fire Protection and Prevention terminology is required.
  • Within 12 months, the incumbent must be able to obtain and then maintain the DoD Hazmat Operations certification, the DoD/IFSAC Firefighter I and II certifications, and the Driver Operator Pumper certification.
