LivaNova PLC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work on product development, design, and verification for Cardiopulmonary (CP) disposable and mechanical products.


This role involves using simulation tools and testing to define and execute appropriate test protocols. The engineer will ensure manufactured parts meet design specifications, documenting results in First Article Inspection (FAI) reports and driving corrective actions for any deviations.


This role is based at our site in Mirandola (MO), with a possibility of a hybrid work model after the initial probation period.


Responsibilities and Challenges


The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:



  • Product design
  • Transforming ideas into concept design
  • Understanding and translating product requirements into design
  • Defining technical solutions for new products design and sustaining existing products lifecycle
  • Applying and improving knowledge of technology
  • Developing self-technical skills, in collaboration with the functional manager
  • Cooperating on technical feasibility for products and subsystems, as well as investigating product issues to identify root causes
  • Openly discussing diverse inputs for product development and technical design reviews
  • Contributing to project strategy when product decisions are required

Key Responsibilities and Activities


During the design and development phase, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will:



  • Deliver solutions that meet specifications
  • Be a proactive sparring partner for Therapy, Design, and Prototyping Engineers, challenging design decisions
  • Design subsystems that meet required specifications, sharing and explaining technical decisions
  • Apply design changes
  • Verify FAI, ensuring parts meet specifications with an acceptable level of process capability
  • Use virtual prototyping and simulation tools to verify designed solutions
  • Support Prototyping Engineers during physical prototype and pre-series realization
  • Define test protocols to verify mechanical performances
  • Analyze results, interpreting them
  • Perform accurate device autopsy to identify and analyze product and process issues
  • Identify, propose, and select solutions to resolve issues

Requirements and Qualifications


The ideal candidate will have:



  • Mechnical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering degree
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in medical devices design and disposables manufacturing
  • Proficiency in CAD specializations: CREO Windchill
  • Strong expertise in molding simulations, FEM, and CFD analysis
  • Knowledge of ISO 13486 (nice to have)
  • Fluency in both Italian and English
