About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Instrument Engineer to join our team at Atoy Jobs. As an Instrument Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Data Quality Manager, covering aspects related to Instrument Performance, Operational Processors, and Calibration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Processors Support: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and data exchange during Phase E2.
  • Instrument Performance Review: Conduct thorough reviews of L1 processors and offline calibration processors to ensure optimal performance.
  • Documentation Planning: Plan and prepare documentation for phase E2 data quality activities, including processor maintenance, evolution, and product monitoring.
  • Testing and Acceptance: Support the testing and acceptance of Level 1, including white-box testing and understanding of processing algorithms.
  • Documentation Review: Review documentation from various sources, including ESA and Industry, during project phases dealing with sub-systems implementation and testing.
  • Technical Note Generation: Generate technical notes as needed during relevant project phases.
  • Anomaly Investigation: Provide support for instrument anomaly investigations, tracing anomalies from the instrument back to L1b data.
  • Tool Operations: Operate various supporting tools for processing functionality.
  • Anomaly Mitigation: Support the investigation of anomaly mitigation, either on instrument settings or calibration processors.
  • Offline Calibration: Support the updates of Offline Calibration Processors and derivation of updated instrument and CCDB settings.
  • Interactions: Interact with Mission Post Launch Support and associated industry, as well as the DISC.
  • Meetings and Groups: Participate in progress and planning meetings, as well as Mission Advisory Groups and Quality Working Groups.
  • Workshop Planning: Plan workshops and support the integration of processors within processing centers.
  • Integration and Validation: Define and run integration and validation tests, including test results analysis and reporting.
  • Product Review: Support review of products Quality Control and Instruments Monitoring baselines.
  • Algorithm Definition: Support the definition and review of processing algorithms.
  • Product Format Definition: Support the review of products format definition.
  • Tool Development: Develop ad-hoc tools for the accomplishment of PDGS testing and validation.
Requirements
  • Education: University master degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation.
  • Background: Good understanding of and background in geophysical sciences and/or specific instruments, such as LIDAR, Radiometer, and MultiSpectral Imager.
  • Experience: Experience in instrument development and on-ground testing, instrument L1 ATBD development, instrument and data monitoring, data quality control, operational processors development, and calibration activities.
  • Language: Fluent English language (oral and written) and autonomous in writing technical notes, specifications, and reports in English.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good inter-personal skills and team spirit.
Desirable Skills
  • ESA Knowledge: Good knowledge of the ESA Earth Explorers missions and processes related to their PDGS development.
  • Programming Skills: Programming skills in order to develop tools for the accomplishment of engineering, testing, and validation activities.
  • Containerization and Virtual Environment: Sound knowledge of containerization technologies and virtual environment.
  • ECSS Standards: Knowledge of the ECSS standards and documentation and configuration control management techniques.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel on mission.
