Position Overview

Garmin Italy Technologies is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Java Software Engineer to contribute to our innovative team of developers.

We are looking for a self-driven, results-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to play a key role in the team's success by providing effective technical solutions and support in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop sophisticated software solutions utilizing cloud technologies such as Java, SpringBoot, RabbitMQ, and Docker. Implement advanced methodologies for processing geospatial data and its digital representation.

• Utilize software engineering tools, including configuration management systems, build processes, and debugging tools throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Engage in peer code reviews, offering constructive feedback and suggestions to enhance code quality.

• Conduct technical root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for identified issues.

• Execute unit tests to ensure code robustness, covering edge cases, usability, and overall reliability.

• Collaborate professionally with fellow Garmin associates across various functions to meet project objectives.

• Demonstrate a sense of urgency and commitment while focusing on key priorities to deliver timely solutions.

• Participate in product and application definition activities, including feature analysis and system trade-offs.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, along with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

• Proficiency in backend programming languages and frameworks, particularly Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and SQL scripting.

• Experience with ORM frameworks such as Hibernate.

• Knowledge of front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3).

• Strong grasp of web development principles, including client-side versus server-side, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.

• Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, version control, build processes, and testing methodologies.

• A continuous desire to learn about new technologies, methodologies, and solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Agile (Scrum) project management methodologies.

• Basic knowledge of GIS and spatial databases.

• Experience with technologies such as JPA, JDBC, Hibernate, Bash scripting, PHP, and Docker.

Language Requirements:
Proficiency in English (B2-C1 level) is required.

Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
