Family Advocate Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Advocate to provide support and advocacy to families in need. As a Family Advocate, you will work closely with families to help them navigate through difficult situations and connect them with resources to improve their overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy to families in need
  • Conduct assessments to identify the needs of families and develop individualized plans to address those needs
  • Connect families with community resources such as housing, healthcare, and education
  • Collaborate with other professionals such as social workers, healthcare providers, and educators to ensure families receive comprehensive support
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions with families
  • Attend meetings and trainings to stay current on best practices and policies related to family advocacy
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with families in crisis or in need of support
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available to families
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Compassionate and non-judgmental approach to working with families

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum - must have or within 18 months of hire, a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or related field with coursework in social services, counseling, psychology, child development
  • Two (2) years in a family/social services or early childhood setting related to case management
  • Bilingual - able to speak, read and write in both English and Spanish (REQUIRED)
  • Specialized training in social services, health, or disabilities case management desired
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record – proof of auto insurance within agency limits, or access to transportation
  • Immediate/continued enrollment in the Criminal History Registry-Child Care Division
  • Current Health Appraisal, updated every two (2) years
  • Certification in First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant CPR within 90 days of hire
