Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Developer to join our team at Canonical, a leading international software company. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting open source projects, collaborating with a globally distributed team.

About the Role
As a Senior Backend Software Developer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing new features and enhancements from spec to production and ongoing operations at scale. You will write clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python (and optionally Golang).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate remotely with a globally distributed team.
  • Write clean web service APIs to support both CLI and web frontend clients, using Python (and optionally Golang).
  • Design and implement new features and enhancements from spec to production and ongoing operations at scale.
  • Review code and technical designs produced by other engineers.
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions.

About You
To be successful in this role, you should have demonstrated professional proficiency in developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python. A broad technology base but favouring backend code and infrastructure is also essential. Experience with Ubuntu as a development and deployment platform is desirable.

  • Demonstrated strong academic performance in Computer Science, STEM or a similar degree.

What We Offer
At Canonical, we offer a competitive salary of $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional benefits include:
